TMAT Involved in Local Employment Initiatives

TMAT Ltd has been involved in a recent local employment initiative which has been championed nationwide by Ingeus UK Limited.  Ingeus are the prime provider for the government’s flagship employability contract – “The Work Program”.

Carl Palmer – Production Manager represented TMAT Ltd at the Sports & Social Inclusion program which was held at The Proact Stadium – home to Chesterfield FC.  The project uses sport, particularly football and boxing to raise people’s self-esteem and motivation whilst at the same time delivering tailored employability support, which helps clients develop the skills they need, including teamwork, discipline, leadership and motivation.  The program was delivered by Ingeus along with sportsmen from Boxing -Glenn McCrory  (former British Cruiserweight Boxer) and from Football – Olivier Bernard (Former Newcastle Utd & French international footballer).  Carl presented the delegates with an insight into TMAT Ltd and the qualities that the business looks for when recruiting. He was pleased to be involved in the project and hoped that, on behalf of TMAT Ltd, he had contributed to the future successes of the candidates involved in the project.

TMAT Reveals High Temperature Visco-Elastic Foam

Hood Seal

Hood Seal – Click to Enlarge

Innovative chemical engineering has enabled our engineers to develop & produce a brand new high temperature visco-elastic foam.

Predominantly designed for use in sealing applications to prevent hot air recirculation, it helps cooling performance which directly affects the engine efficiency of heavy machinery such as tractors and excavators. Capable of withstanding temperatures of up to 120 degrees Celsius the visco-elastic nature of the material  gives high performance sealing even against uneven surfaces such as hand laid glass fibre.

For years, TMAT has used its own formulations to create superior acoustic parts in a wide variety of applications, specifically for Noise, Vibration & Harshness protection in special vehicles and off highway machines.

Call us now to find out more about our high temperature sealing solutions.

TMAT Supply Chain Efficiency Development

TMAT have recently combined the Despatch and Stores offices to create a Goods Control Team. The second phase of this development  is to create a Delivery & Collection Window System.

The Delivery/ Collection Windows concept works with Suppliers and Customers to create practices and efficiencies to ultimately achieve higher quality and service delivery.

How will this initiative affect Suppliers? – at the point of “order confirmation” a delivery date & time will be allocated.

The timings for receipt of deliveries will be:

6:30am – 9:30am Monday to Friday &

4:30pm – 6:30pm Monday to Thursday

How will this initiative affect Customers? – at the point of a confirmed collection the date & time will be determined and booked by our logistics team at TMAT.

We envisage this new process to start on 20 October 2014.

The Delivery/ Collection Window is one of a number of internal initiatives we are developing as part of our commitment to continuous improvement.

TMAT support Yorkshire Air Ambulance

TMAT recently donated £100 to The Yorkshire Air Ambulance. TMAT was asked to support the charity by an employee who was a neighbour of Jamie Lynch who sadly died in a motorcycle accident in May.  Jamie’s family arranged a charity event “ShedFest” which was held  in August at New Whittington Club to raise funds for The Yorkshire Air Ambulance and in memorial of Jamie.   Jamie’s family said that they were grateful for all the donations they  received for the charity.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance is an independent charity providing a life saving rapid response emergency service to 5 million people across Yorkshire. They operate seven days a week, 365 days a year, covering a vast landscape that not only includes major cities and motor ways, but also rural and isolated locations.  The Yorkshire Air Ambulance receives no government assistance and all the funds for this vital service are raised by Company’s and the public.

To keep providing this life saving service the charity needs to raise £9990 per day to keep both of Yorkshire’s Air Ambulances maintained and in the air. The generosity that they receive is the life blood of the charity and with out this generosity, they would not be able to provide the service.

TMAT brings CLAAS to Derbyshire

Tractor manufacturer visits from Le Mans

TMAT, the multi-national manufacturer of acoustic components, is the only UK-based supplier chosen this year by global agricultural engineering company, CLAAS, for a two-day productivity and planning workshop.

The visit reflects the importance that the German-owned company places on its supplier relationships and the key part that TMAT’s manufacturing expertise plays in its products.  TMAT manufactures thousands of cab internal acoustic components every year for CLAAS Tractors, which are produced in Le Mans, France, the home of motor sport, as well as cab external noise reduction components that sit between the engine and cab.

Six members of the CLAAS Tractors senior team from Le Mans as well as from their R&D facility in Vélizy, Paris visited TMAT’s Chesterfield HQ for the two days, representing the company’s procurement, quality assurance, purchasing, research & development, production and logistics operations.  By meeting with their opposite numbers at TMAT, they were able to work through the processes, improve efficiencies and develop a nine-month action plan.

Jason Lippitt, Managing Director at TMAT, says: “This was a great opportunity for the teams that usually only communicate via phone and email to meet face-to-face and see how our two companies can work together even more effectively.  We’re delighted that CLAAS has been prepared to devote so much time to us as a supplier and we in turn have a programme of on-going investment that enables us to design products exclusively on-site to meet their challenges and needs.”

TMAT says need for migrant workforce highlights UK Manufacturing skills shortage

TMATWith debate raging over the impact of extra migrants on UK jobs, TMAT has said that it is proud of its diverse workforce – and that the need to employ so many staff from overseas only serves to highlight the UK skills shortage.

TMAT has a staff made up of eight different nationalities: Russian; German; Polish; Romanian; Ghanaian; Greek; Jamaican; and British.

These are all skilled workers making important contributions to a multi-national manufacturer of acoustic components for tractors and excavators – whose customers include the likes of Case, New Holland Tractors, JCB and Volvo – currently turning over between £10m – £15m and with exciting global ambitions.

Jason Lippitt, MD of TMAT, said: “At the end of the day, we’re a business, and that means getting the people with the right skills for the job; and if that means recruiting from overseas, then so be it.

“We have a very harmonious and highly accomplished international workforce helping drive us towards our goal of turning over £20m per year.

“I’d love to be able to recruit lots of young British-born workers, but I’m afraid the UK education system is currently failing to produce enough engineers, chemists and skilled workers of the calibre a manufacturer like TMAT needs.”

TMAT designs and engineers innovative solutions to Noise, Vibration and Harshness for ACE (agricultural, construction, earthmoving) markets that it knows are the best in the industry.

TMAT’S products are unique to each individual customer, tailored to specific needs and requirements. All of its products are exclusively designed by TMAT’s on-site Chemists and Engineers to meet the challenges and needs of some of the world’s largest OEMs.
