TMAT creates third of a million in sales with New Hybrid Foam Insulation Product

TMAT Ltd is expecting £370,000 in sales next year based on predicted order volumes of a hybrid foam heavy machinery system it has developed in partnership with a major OEM customer.

Capable of withstanding temperatures of up to 120 degrees Celsius and mouldable into any shape or form, the polyurethane ‘cushion’ is designed to increase airflow in order to prevent heavy machinery such as tractors and excavators from superheating and, as a result, self-regulating and losing performance.

The hybrid foam will provide a much sought-after solution to cooling and insulation issues in heavy machinery and greatly increase the efficiency of those machines, meaning savings on fuel for agricultural or construction businesses that buy and operate them.

Jason Lippitt, Managing Director of TMAT, said: “Predicted sales of this product have gone through the roof since we’ve fully developed it.

“It’s little wonder, really, considering the foam’s cooling and insulation properties and flexibility in combination with its ability to withstand such high temperatures.

“Heavy machinery overheating too soon and reducing efficiency is a huge problem for OEMs and their customers alike, and we have created an excellent solution to it – the orders clearly reflect that.”

An OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) is used to refer to a company that acquires a product or component and reuses or incorporates it into a new product with its own brand name.

Jo Joins the Elite

Our very own Jo Kisgory has joined the ranks of the elite after becoming only the 20th PA to achieve a ‘Pass with Distinction’ in the Diploma in Person Assistance (DipPA)!

Jo said of her achievement: “My recent attendance at the DipPA course delivered by APA has renewed my enthusiasm, effectiveness & passion for my role.  I have learnt how I can support the business needs and ensure that my Manager can be fully effective in his role.  I thoroughly enjoyed the course and have come back to my role knowing that I am no longer JUST a PA, I am a PA with an important position and I can make a difference!”

Dr. Gareth Osborne of APA, who lectured on the course, said: “Jo starred throughout, she is obviously a great PA and a credit to her business TMAT. I wasn’t surprised when I was told she had joined the ranks of the elite by joining the small number of Diploma holders with a distinction. I know that some of her test answers were very sophisticated and she is not afraid of asking questions; even when it appears to some to be ‘silly’ questions. Covering all the angles is the mark of an outstanding PA, and she is.”

TMAT creates new jobs to meet foreign demand

TMAT Ltd – the multi-national manufacturer of acoustic components for tractors and excavators whose customers include JCB and Volvo – is creating new jobs to meet increased foreign demand.

TMAT has seen increasing levels of business from markets markedly different time zones in particular since the beginning of 2013.

TMAT will adopt a new continental shift pattern to meet this demand, which will mean the factory in Chesterfield operating 24/7, therefore, requiring greater manpower.

Jason Lippitt, Managing Director of TMAT, said: “This is a paradigm shift from one way of working that suited the business needs for so long to one vital to our – and our customers’ – current and future needs.

“Businesses like ours working in a global environment with customers in different time zones need to anticipate change and adapt to it, and that is precisely what we’ve done.

“The decision to move to the continental shift pattern has already created an even greater dynamism about the place, and we look forward to the adding new blood to our enthusiastic team as the business continues to grow.”

TMAT’s six-month report has revealed that its sales are up 6% on this time last year – outstripping the 1% improvement in sales across UK manufacturing as a whole – with gross profit up by 10%.

Such figures suggest that TMAT – the multi-national manufacturer of acoustic components for tractors and excavators – is faring six times better than the average UK manufacturing business despite operating in markets – such as construction – that are still essentially flat.   Looking ahead, TMAT is confident that the second half of the year, similarly, will return record breaking sales and profit.

The news comes at a time when TMAT has just announced that it is looking for a major new investor to come on board and help drive the business forward into the global market. Its current main shareholder, Advent Partners LLP, has instructed Orbis Partners LLP to divest its interests in TMAT Ltd – which it has helped transform from a promising manufacturing business into one that is now turning over around £12m – on the basis that it is now time to match the business with a larger group that can help accelerate the process of TMAT fulfilling its vast potential on the global market.

Jason Lippitt, MD of TMAT, said: “We were naturally really buoyed by the news that UK manufacturing is enjoying significant improvement after an extended difficult period. But to find from the six-month report that we are performing six times better was just fantastic.

“That’s not to say that we’re prepared to sit back and take it easy, and I don’t think UK manufacturing in general should do so, either: we’re a long way from being out of the woods yet.

“We’ve never – in my time here – competed on price, but rather endeavoured to deliver the best possible product and customer service and will keep working hard to ensure we continue to return these great figures.”

TMAT’s very own Financial Controller Laura Bawden attended Chaucer School’s Values Event day on Tuesday 14th May. Laura shared her experiences and knowledge at the Values Event, as well as showing her leadership skills and her positive perspective.

Laura is one of the first people to sign up for The Manufacturer’s recent School Governor’s campaign. The aim is to have someone from a manufacturing company on the board of governors of every state-run school in the country. Laura has started the process by becoming a member of the Chaucer School’s Business Advisory Board and she will be considered for the governor’s board should a vacancy arise.

TMAT would like to wish Laura every success with this campaign and hope that the children of the future will aspire to work within the manufacturing and engineering industry!

We’re very pleased to announce that Jason Lippitt, MD of TMAT Ltd has been awarded the Business in the Community Award at the Derbyshire Times Pride of Chesterfield Awards 2013.

Jason – who will have to undergo complex surgery on his foot recently after completing the London Marathon despite being advised not to do so after injuring himself in the opening section of the race – has been at the forefront of a company that has thrived in the past year in spite of the tough economic climate and also lent considerable support to the local community.

TMAT has done so through job creation and a determination to employ people from the local area and by engaging in charitable activities such as the London Marathon, Sheffield Half-Marathon and donating Easter Eggs to the Children’s Ward at Chesterfield Hospital.

TMAT has also done a great deal to encourage young people from the area to aspire towards a career in manufacturing and engineering. First, it announced plans that could – as well as creating more specialised jobs in its existing state-of-the-art Chesterfield facility – see young local people working in its proposed new factory in Brazil as part of the preparations for the 2014 football World Cup and 2016 Olympics. Second, it became the first company in the UK to successfully put forward a candidate – in the form of Financial Controller Laura Bawden – for The Manufacturer magazine’s campaign to place a high-level manufacturing company employee on the governing board of every school in the country in order to encourage more young people to work towards a career in the industry.

A humbled Jason Lippitt said of his award: “We’ve had an incredible year at TMAT and this award shouldn’t really go to me but to the whole team, both for its hard work to make TMAT what it is as a manufacturing business but also as a company with an ethos to support its local community.

“As for completing the London Marathon with this foot of mine, I just knew I couldn’t let down The British Heart Foundation I was raising money for, my son, wife, family and all the people that had supported me in my training, so I had to finish it.

“I’m paying for it now with the serious discomfort in my foot and the fact I’ll have to take time out to undergo surgery, but it was well worth it nevertheless.”

TMAT Ltd – whose customers include JCB, Case, New Holland and Volvo – enjoyed a record £4million in new business enquiries in 2012, has smashed all sales targets throughout 2013, is looking at a sales pipe line of some £4.5million and has recently announced plans to expand into Brazil.

TMAT is rare for having been one of the businesses that has thrived during the economic downturn. Its growth has risen from £5m per year to in excess of £10m since 2009 and TMAT aims to drive turnover to more than £20 million by 2015.
