MEP champions GB manufacturing in East Midlands

TMAT Ltd welcomed MEP for the East Midlands Emma McClarkin to its factory this week to officially open its new state-of-the-art laboratory and to be shown a Case New Holland Tractor that is fitted out with TMAT’s acoustic polyurethane products. The new lab, which is part of TMAT’s three-quarter million pound investment into the site will drive innovation and technology and is part of TMAT’s plans for continued value-added manufacturing and growth.

MEP Emma McClarkin cut the ribbon to open the new lab and commented to the employees at TMAT: “The new lab and Dr Ken Kendall illustrates the commitment that TMAT has to research and development and innovation so that the company can continue to grow.”

Manufacturing is not dead in the UK and Emma was encouraged to see TMAT’s workforce has doubled and that the company is making a huge contribution to exporting, with more than half of its sales going to Europe, Asia and the Americas.

In her address to the company she said: “I am here to make sure that what comes out of Brussels and the European Union doesn’t hamper UK businesses but aides them so that the UK can remain competitive…I’m so thrilled to see such a hub of activity here in Chesterfield knowing that its making such a difference to the future of manufacturing.”

The Case New Holland Tractor was supplied by Colin Larkin, Plant Manager and CPO based in Basildon: “We make 120 vehicles a day at the UK plant and excellent delivery policies and good premium products is what is required. I can see a huge difference in the plant since my last visit almost five years ago and TMAT is going in the right direction. All of its team should be encouraged to learn the new skills required to drive new technology and innovation and develop the plant further.”

TMAT Ltd, is a multi-national manufacturer of polyurethane acoustic components for the ACE (agricultural-construction-earthmoving) markets.
